Animal Poems
After reading some animal poems by Ted Hughes, Year 6 have written some of their own. They have then added them directly to the school web-site themselves
The Great Elephant
The slow body of the elephant,
Is its own tremendous mountain.
It waltzes slowly and steadily,
Swinging its head from side to side,
In a state of valiant fascination.
Wondering were these strange,
Ant-like creatures come from.
They stand still and gape like deranged monkeys,
And whistle like cackling robins.
He is in a state of fascination,
But also aware of danger,
Listening for the click of the hatch,
On the biting harpoon.
It slips its trunk nimbly around the crippled girl,
Hearing frantic screams from the goggling people,
Why do they scream? Thought the great elephant.
By Hayden Hewitt
Golden Goldfish
Golden Goldfish swim all day,
In their bowl you see them play.
Blowing Bubbles sleeping too,
Nothing else for them to do
Swimming quickly flapping fins,
All of them have scaly skins.
Golden Goldfish live in water
Not like us in Bricks and Mortar
Golden Goldfish my special pet
He?s very happy when he?s wet
By Charlotte Healy
The Polar Bear
The polar bear white as white can be.
As it stumbles on the crunching snow
It captures the howling wind in its fur.
Polar bears heavy rasping breathing makes the water move
Warning its food.
Fresh clear cold smell
Makes the baby whimper.
His fur is icy as you touch
But when you reach inside you are warm
As you taste the fish he eats in your own mouth.
By Emma Johnson.
The Great Brown Elephant
The Great Brown Elephant
Is a slow moving animal.
Or he comes, storming away from poachers,
A big, lonely, left-behind tortoise
Smothered with mud.
Brown, he is looking for some trees
To hide behind.
But the poachers are close behind-
His own flapping ears
Panics him to right, and to left, and backwards, and forwards
Till he topples over sideways
Over the mud full lake.
He manages to stand up
Listening
For the poachers wandering through the long grass.
By Arran Smith
Polar Bear
As I walked on the
Cold crisp grass I could
Feel it running through my feet.
I looked straight at its
Black bold feet I could
Feel the coldness.
I could see the warm
Air escaping from its mouth.
I could smell the fresh air
Coming towards me.
I could feel the loneliness
Of the polar bear and the
Temperature.
