A High Flyer of a Day

It was a beautiful sunny day for the St Thomas balloon race. We had been selling balloons at £1 each to raise money for school funds.
At 3-o clock all the children in the school carried a balloon onto the playing field and at a count of ten all the balloons were released into the sky. Each balloon had a number, which represented a child's name. Many balloons travelled to London and to Sussex and one travelled in a different direction to Cornwall. The winning balloon travelled an amazing distance of 238 miles to Dieppe in France. The balloon belonged to Ben Dawes a pupil in year 1. Ben won a CD hi-fi system donated by a local firm.
We raised a stunning total of £710.
