Year 6 Poetry

Poetry by Y6 inspired by "The Listeners" by Walter De La Mare

Betrayal By Sean Wright.

Shedding the bark of a near birch tree,
With a dagger hard and cold,
Striking a flint upon his knee,
Sparking a fire as so he was told.
***
He knelt in great silence,
And fanned the warm flames,
Then he joined his hands tense,
And waited for certain names.
***
Nobody came but still he waited,
Then he began to wonder,
Had they lied what they had said?
Still he waited, almost in slumber.
***
Then suddenly in rage he leapt to the sky,
And stamped on the sizzling embers,
And roared, You betrayed me, how you lie,
Though I wait till this fire is cinders!
***
Alas I trust you no more
And to the heavens he cried,
I did my part but all the more,
To me they lied, They lied.
